Description

Students taking the course AB-202 Marine Arctic Biology at The University Center in Svalbard collected samples in four fjords around Svalbard from Helmer Hanssen March 2025. The fjords were Isfjorden (IsK), Kongsfjorden (KB3), Smeerenburgfjorden (SMF) and St. Jonsfjorden (STJ). There were done both pelagic and benthic trawl at all the locations.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 75 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

The pelagic trawl used is called Harstad trawl, and the benthic trawl is called Campelan trawl. The 19th of March 2025 the benthic trawl at IsK started at depth 272.49 m and stopped at 270.82 m depth. The benthic trawl was down for 20 minutes. The pelagic trawl was down for 15 minutes at 50 m depth. The 20th of March 2025 the benthic trawl at KB3 started at depth 283.67 m and stopped at 224.96 m depth. The benthic trawl was down for 20 minutes. The pelagic trawl was down for 15 minutes at 200 m depth. The 21st of March 2025 the first benthic trawl at SMF started at depth 207.23 m and stopped at 203.01 m depth. The second benthic trawl started at depth 204.93 m and stopped at 205.56 m. Both benthic trawls were down for 15 minutes. The pelagic trawl was down for 15 minutes at 140 m depth. The 22nd of March 2025 the benthic trawl at STJ started at depth 224.53 m and stopped at 238.67 m depth. The benthic trawl was down for 20 minutes. The pelagic trawl was down for 15 minutes depth not recorded.

Study Extent Samples collected from four fjords around Svalbard. The fjords were Isfjorden (IsK), Kongsfjorden (KB3), Smeerenburgfjorden (SMF) and St. Jonsfjorden (STJ).

Method step description:

  1. For each trawl, the fish were identified and sorted by species before they were counted and weighed.
