Description
The data all come from the JC2-2 expedition of the Nansen Legacy to the Nansen and Amundsen Basins in Aug-Sept 2021 (Fransson et al. 2022, https://doi.org/10.7557/nlrs.6413 ) where 5 stations were sampled from sea ice to seafloor. They contain carbon and nitrogen isotope values for pelagic and benthic invertebrates.
Data Records
The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 83 records.
2 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Project Data
The Nansen Legacy is a novel and holistic Arctic research project providing integrated scientific knowledge on the rapidly changing marine climate and ecosystem. A new knowledge base is required to facilitate a sustainable management of the northern Barents Sea and adjacent Arctic Basin through the 21st century.

Sampling Methods
Zooplankton samples were collected from WP2 net hauls. Benthic fauna were sampled from surface sediments of box cores which was sieved over 0.25 mm mesh. Due to low densities, fauna were pooled by taxon from replicate box cores per site, frozen onboard at -20 degC and later freeze-dried. Details in Kohlbach et al. (in revision with Elementa) and also refer to Nansen Legacy protocol v.10.
Study Extent | Nansen and Amundsen Basin |

Method step description:
- Dried faunal samples were analyzed at the Alaska Stable Isotope Lab on a Thermo Scientific Conflow IV and Delta VPlus ratio mass spectrometer. For all samples d15N values are from non-acidified samples, while d13C values are from acidified subsamples for calcifying organisms.
