Description

The Bird Collection of the University Museum Bergen houses 7100 specimens. The majority are study skins (incl. a few old mounted birds) and about 400 birds preserved in ethanol. The collection has a focus on species from Norway, but also includes (mainly old) specimens from localities in other parts of the world. The collection is currently growing by about 40-50 birds per year. These have typically been accidentally killed by e.g. airplanes, fishing gear, windows, cars, cats etc., and have been delivered to the museum by members of the public or local authorities. A few are also normally collected during field work by museum staff. DISCLAIMER: The dataset is curated and will receive updates, please always make sure to download the latest version. The provided data is likely not entirely free of errors. If using (parts of) the data, please carefully check datapoints. In doubt, please contact the responsible curator for further improvement.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 7,035 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
