Description

Underwater video transects were carried out at Skarvhammaren, Nordland, Norway between 31 March and 30 April 2025. The dataset contains 1 229 observation points of sponges, corals and sea pens recorded along 22 transects, with associated depth, geographic coordinates, substrate type, organism size class and abundance counts.

Method step description:

  1. High-definition ROV video transects. Each transect was divided into sequential datapoints (A–Q). At each datapoint the ROV paused and organisms visible within the frame were identified to species where possible, counted and measured. Depth was recorded from the ROV pressure sensor (metres). Geographic position was logged by USBL navigation in WGS84. Substrate was classified visually into four categories: FF (fine fines), S (sand), G (gravel) and St (stone). Colony diameter (corals) was estimated visually to the nearest 10 cm.
