Sampling Methods
Three box cores were deployed at eight sites on R/V Kronprins Haakon, each using a short sediment core (5.5 cm diameter) to subsample benthic foraminifera. All surface sediment samples (0-1 cm) were preserved onboard in a 70% ethanol solution stained with 2 g L-1 rose Bengal.
| Study Extent | Sediment sampling was performed during five expeditions onboard R/V Kronprins Haakon - August 2019 (Q3), December 2019 (Q4), March 2021 (Q1), and May 2021 (Q2), and February/March 2022 (JC3) between 75-83 °N and 24-34 °E. |

Method step description:
- The surface sediment (0-1 cm) was washed over a 500 and 63 μm mesh sieve. The 63-500 μm fraction was split using a wet splitter and further subdivided into two fractions: 63-125 μm and 125-500 μm. The rB–stained foraminifera (>63 μm) were wet-picked, identified, and counted under a Nikon SMZ18 stereomicroscope. Individuals were identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible.
