Descrição
This is a dataset collected by students at the University Centre in Svalbard through the course AB-202, Arctic Marine Biology, in the spring of 2025. In this dataset, we investigated the biodiversity of zooplankton at four different locations around Svalbard: IsK, Kongsfjorden, Smeerenburg, and St. Jonsfjorden. This was conducted from March 19th to March 22nd, 2025, in the following order as mentioned. We used a multinet at all locations. Samples were collected from the surface and the bottom of the water column, and at greater depths, additional samples were taken from the middle of the water column.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Métodos de Amostragem
We used a multinet in all of the locations, all nets was 180μm. We programed the multinet to open the different nets on different depths according to the different bottom depths. For Isk the bottom depth was 275m. The watercoloum was divided into five sections; 260-200m, 200-100m, 100-50m, 50-20m, 20-0m. For Kongsfjorden the bottom depth was 350m. The five sections were 320-200m, 200-100m, 100-50m, 50-20m, 20-0m. The bottom depth for Smeerenburg was 207. The five section was; 175-150m, 150-100m, 100-50m, 50-20m, 20-0m. For the last fjord St. Jonsfjorden, the bottom depth was 117. The section was; 100-75m, 75-50m, 50-20m, 20-5m, 5-0m.
Área de Estudo | We did samples in four different locations. Isk sampling was done the 19th of march, it was taken sampling in three different depth; 0-50m for the surface layer, 50-100m for the midle layer and 100-260m bottom layer, the bottom depth here was 275m. The Kongsfjorden station was done the 20th of march, it was taken samples on three different depth; 0-50m for the surface layer, 50-100m for the midle layer and 100-320m for the bottom layer, the bottom depth was 350m. The sampling in Smeerenburg was done the 21th of march, it was taken samples on three different depth: 0-50m for the surface layer, 50-100m for the midle layer and 100-175m for the bottom layer, here was the bottom depth 207m. The last sampling was done the 22th of march in St. Jonsfjorden, here it was taken 2 samples; 0-50m for the surface layer and 50-100m for the bottom layer, the bottom depth here was 117. |

Descrição dos passos do método:
- At all locations what was collected in the five nets were combined into three bottles; bottom-100m, 100-50m and 50-0m. Exception was at St. Jonsfjorden were it was only combined into two bottles since it was so shallow, it was bottom-50m and 50-0m. To combined contents was using a sive with mesh size were the same or finer as the multinet mesh size. The contents was put into the bottles, that then were filled with water almost to the top, and then formaldehyde was added to preserve the content. For each location and each sample bottle, the contents of the bottles were sived out from the formaldehyde and put in saltwater. From this there were taken multiple sub-samples where for each the zooplankton were identified and counted. based on this the total individuals per kube of the identified zooplankton
