Project Data

Ordinary Norwegian RAPP mousetraps are put out in a line - 5 meters apart at spots selected to be a godd place to catch mouse. Traps are baited with pieces of raw potatoe. The normal nuber of traps have been 100 in each transcept, but deviation from this occur. Traps are our for 2 nights - approximate 40 hours. Catches are picccked up every morning.

Funding The main funding is by Nord univeristy as this is part of a education/Class program. Porcessing the data is partly funded by The Norwegian MInistry og Environment.
Study Area Description Transect 3 is a new cut area of lowland boreal - spruce dominated forest. Due to succession porocesses traps have been put out on different clearcuts in the visinity to keep trapping at a grass/herb dominbated senondary, young succsession stage. Trancect 4 is in an old mature spruce forest near to transcet 3 and with same vegetaion type.

Sampling Methods

Given before.

Study Extent The collection of data is done once a year in september. Purpose is partly to tecah students the metods and ability to identify mouse species, nut as a part of a long term poulation cykle study for the region.
Quality Control The species and sex is controlled by students and the teachers in cooperation.

Method step description:

  1. Rodents and scresa re protected species in Norway and trapping in nature is onlyy permitted for scietificand/or pedagogical purposes. Permits are give for this researvh by The Norwegian Ministry of Environment. The Method is in itself simple and decribed earlier.
