Descrição

It is also possible to view these specimens on a map: https://gbif-norway.github.io/radiolaria-map/. The Norwegian GBIF node approved a data mobilization grant for the UiO Natural History Museum for funding the preparation and publication of primary biodiversity data on Radiolaria specimens from the surface sediments in the Nordic Seas (Greenland-, Iceland- and Norwegian Seas) and the Arctic Ocean. In addition to the open sea/ocean locations, data from the west Norwegian main fjords (Sognefjord and Hardangerfjord) and all their tributary fjords, as well as Malangen and Balsfjord in Northern Norway, are included herein.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Cobertura Geográfica

The general distribution of radiolarian abundance and individual species are very scanty. For the Nordic Sea and the Arctic Ocean we now report on quantitative species assemblages as well as individual species. You can view these specimens on a map: http://nhm2.uio.no/radiolaria/. You can view the sea delineations here: http://nhm2.uio.no/radiolaria/images/nordic_seas.jpg The map shows all stations used, but only the GREEN stations have been counted to show the quantitative composition of the radiolarian assemblages. All stations are identified with Station number, latitude and longitude and water depth. On each of the GREEN stations, there is a list of all species encountered in this study. Percent values for each species counted on the specific station is also given. By accessing all blue species names (on GREEN stations only) you navigate to www.Radiolaria.org for species original description, illustrations etc. In the lower left corner when you access http://nhm2.uio.no/radiolaria/ you will see two other links: View North Atlantic Ocean (http://nhm2.uio.no/radiolaria/?kml=north-atlantic.kml) - All stations used in Goll, R. M. and Bjørklund, K. R., 1971. Radiolaria in surface sediments of the North Atlantic Ocean. Micropaleontology, vol. 17(4): 434-454. Only station identification, longitude and latitude, water depth and radiolarian/g sediment is shown. View South Atlantic Ocean (http://nhm2.uio.no/radiolaria/?kml=south-atlantic.kml) - All stations used in Goll, R.M. and Bjørklund, K.R., 1974. Radiolaria in surface sediments of the South Atlantic. Micropaleontology, vol. 20 (1): 38-75. Only station identification, longitude and latitude, water depth and radiolarian/g sediment is shown.

Cobertura Taxonômica

The purpose of this dataset is to show all the surface samples available in the Nordic Sea and the Arctic Ocean, and to show all the stations that we have analysed from a quantitative point of view. To familiarise yourself with our radiolarian taxonomy, please refer to our dataset, “Radiolaria taxa in the Norwegian Sea and Arctic Ocean”, for species identification: https://www.gbif.org/dataset/38f91564-30ff-47b0-aa6b-cf3b59f0fca7 We have identified 150 species, 13 subspecies, 3 forms, 108 genera, 22 families, and 4 orders. When you click on the blue species name the reference to the original description will be shown, and some species also have one or more pictures. If you click on any of the pictures you will be taken to http://www.radiolaria.org where the original and emended description is printed, as well as other images of the actual species are also available.
