Título Size and abundance data from Pro Mare project,Barents Sea 1984, 1987, 1988.

Métodos de Amostragem

standard Juday nets (0,36 m opening, 90 µm mesh size) standard WP-2 nets (0.56 m opening, 200 µm mesh size) modified WP-2 nets (0.56 m opening, 90 µm mesh size) submersible plankton pumps "Hufsa" owned by IMR (Bergen; 90 µm mesh size) and University in Tromsø ( 200 µm mesh size). Opening diameter 0.25 m. Some samples were shared with other researchers - the fraction I received has been weighed into "fraction counted"

Área de Estudo Between 1984–1990, the Norwegian Research Council supported system-wide ecological programmes that focused upon the southwestern and central region of the Barents Sea.

Descrição dos passos do método:

  1. Metadata station data from files, notes and cruise reports Abundances count data from calculation files checked against hand-written raw data. Only numerical values above zero and presence data are noted. Data calculated per square m sea surface and down to sampling depth. Depth has been corrected for towing angle, when necessary. Abundances per square m Count data for split water-column (cruise 10, st 6 & 7) and Hufsa pump-samples at discrete depths (cruise 10, st 7, and cruise ED = Endre Dyrøy) Microscope_Pseudocalanus prosome lengths from formalin-preserved samples. Data from files and handwritten notes Species have been identified according to personal communication from Bruce W. Frost, Univ. Washington, and publication Frost, BW (1989). A taxonomy of the marine calanoid copepod genus Pseudocalanus. Canadian Journal of Zoology 67: 525-551. https://doi.org/10.1139/z89-077 Microscope_Microcalanus prosome lengths from formalin-preserved samples. Data from files and handwritten notes Species have been identified according to personal communication from Bruce Frost, Univ. Washington, and technical report by J. Vidal Vidal, Julio (1971). Taxonomic Guides to Arctic Zooplankton (IV): Key to the Calanoid Copepods of the Central Arctic Ocean. Technical report nr 5. University of Southern California, Department of biological sciences. 254 pp. Length of Microcalanus sp adult females overlap mostly with M. pusillus. There is a small overlap of the size distributions between M. pusillus and M. pygmaeus Stained_Pseudocalanus Size measurements (digitized) from formalin fixed, stained and dehydrated copepods in cedarwood oil. Stained_Microcalanus Size measurements (digitized) from formalin fixed, stained and dehydrated copepods in cedarwood oil. Samples from stained samples Stained samples were preserved in formalin, then stained with borax-carmine and dehydrated and transferred to cedarwood oil. This procedure decreased sizes by ca 24% by length (Norrbin, 1994). These contain data on prosome length, width and area, gonad area (sometimes length and width) gonad development stage, oil sack area, sometimes gut contents, and sometimes also visible eggs (oocytes) or diverticulae Described in e.g. Norrbin (1991) listed above and Norrbin (1994)
